Dream - 0115 - The Bakery

Decorating the Cake

I was asked by someone I barely knew to drive down to the bakery and pickup a cake. So I went there and was told it wasn’t ready yet, but he was working on it over there and I could watch. Where the guy was working, in the background, there was a picture of a wheat field on a slightly cloudy day. Lots of brown wheat and dark blue skies.

The cake itself was the standard 10” diameter and was about that tall. It was covered with white icing almost perfectly to not look like a cake but more like one of those round kitty litter bins only shorter, a plastic tub turned over onto its side. The baker was drawing that same background picture on the cake one line at a time similar to a dot matrix printer. The problem was he was drawing it crooked. Maybe 30 degrees off. Also the picture was on the side, but only taking a third of that drawing. Was this the first of 3 drawings? I kind of knew that it was just that one.

When he was done, I took the cake and started driving back. You know off to the right was where I worked. I hadn’t seen the old office in quite awhile. The mall was still there. The strip mall was still there. I pulled into the driveway. Grass Valley computers was now a house. I drive around it. There were a lot of weeds. I could see weeds growing into the house through the sliding glass door. Those weeds were as tall as the door itself.

The Old Computer Store

I headed back to deliver the cake. I took it into the house. In getting ready to put it on the counter. Oddly it shrank about 2 inches. It was sort of bulging at the base. It was a surprise cake and the person the cake was for (some grumpy old lady) offers to help put it down, she’s puts it down on the counter not seeing the picture, an edge of the top breaks of, perhaps 3 bite fulls. She takes it, takes a bite of it and heads outside.
