Review: Dean Koontz

1945 - present

I discovered Dean Koontz back in the years I was commuting between Yuba City and Sacramento. Dean Koontz audio books were popular at price club.

Wikipedia suggests that so far he has published over 105 novels + many other short stories.

Generally, Dean Koontz is categorized as a horror or terror writer. What I feel is Dean Koontz loves life and writes upper vibe’d based books about people going through bad times. I’m not frightened, but I’m not that empathetic either. I am however entertained.

Every book of his that i have read (in access of 50 books) has been a great read.

Some of his books could also be considered sci-fi and those books I would wish for sequels.

Most of his books are stand alone however he did write a series (or two) the most notable being ‘odd thomas’. When I first read odd thomas I thought of the movie ‘the sixth sense’. Odd could see dead people. But where the sixth sense was kind of depressing, Odd was a happy fry cook in love. There was about 8 of these books. The first one was made into a movie ‘odd thomas’. The movie was not so popular, but I loved it. It did a good job communicating a story about someone loving life but having bad experiences.

There are quite a few Dean Koontz movies including

  • Odd thomas - great
  • Sole survivor - I did not see this
  • Intensity - I did not see this
  • Phantoms - I did not see this

There’s many others
