The BabySitter registry
It’s time to pick up the Roz and Maggie. ‘Mark what’s your phone number?’ I give it.
A while later I’m at the house and my phone rings. It’s a reporter from the state. They are asking for my qualifications for babysitting.
Apparently, a law just went into effect, when you babysit, you need to report the start and end times, whose baby sitting, whose being baby sitt’ed.
Rhonda’s phone rings, same conversation.
I open the newspaper - hmm it’s a lot thicker than I remember. Section B is now the babysitting registry. Columns and columns of thinks like “July 14 between 3 and 7. Lieu and Zan Wen babysat by Jodi Yates. Jodi is untrained and started babysitting back in March.” It’s not alphabetized in any order that I can tell.
Hmm… What a gross invasion of privacy. Also this is so boring. Why would a newspaper publish this garbage.
Tomorrow’s paper comes in, section B is still the baby sitting registry, but now the notices say things like “July 14 between 3 and 7. L2950 and Z860 W58714 babysat by J5691 Y497. J5691 is untrained and started babysitting back in March.”
What!
