SFHKPPDDB Bill
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, in a typical outburst, Little Dave Little cast aspersions upon my veracity when I posted the story that I heard about a bill in the Senate called the Spong Fong Hong Kong Ping Pong Ding Dong Bell Bill. I stated that I didn't know if the story was true or not but that it ought to be. This statement inspired the following rant from Little Dave Little:

"No, it really ought not be true. Because it's stupid. How do I know it's stupid? Because you made it up. How do I know you made it up? Because it's stupid. And if you did that bit on stage you would die the death you deserve. And that would truly be funny."

Unfortunately for Little Dave Little, the story turned out to be TRUE as evidenced by the following post obtained from a DejaNews search.

From the Honolulu Advertiser more than 20 years ago as printed in Ann Landers, Sunday, April 7, 1996, (slightly rephrased):

Senators William B. Spong of Virginia and Hiram Fong of Hawaii sponsored a bill recommending the mass ringing of church bells to welcome the arrival in Hong Kong of the U.S. Table Tennis Team after its tour of Communist China.

The bill failed to pass, cheating the Senate out of passing the Spong-Fong Hong Kong Ping Pong Ding Dong Bell Bill.
